NAVIGATING HEALTH POLICY

Chantal Worzala, PhD, is Principal at Alazro Consulting, LLC. An experienced policy executive, she helps provider organizations, associations, patient advocates and technology companies to navigate and shape health policy as they seek to transform health and healthcare using digital health tools. Not only does she understand the nuances of policymaking, but she can explain how rules and regulations work in the real world.

Services include advocacy, strategy development, policy analysis, and environmental scans. Chantal’s expertise spans the digital health spectrum, including adoption and use, interoperability, privacy, administrative simplification, cybersecurity, telehealth, value-based care, and Medicare payment. She is a frequently invited speaker and the author or co-author of numerous peer-reviewed publications on health care innovations.

Chantal previously served as vice president of health information and policy operations at the American Hospital Association, where she was recognized as a leading voice for the provider community and adviser to policymakers. She crafted scores of comment letters, reports and statements for the record on meaningful use, interoperability, telehealth, and administrative simplification. Chantal also spearheaded the policy team’s extensive process to continuously consult with hospital and health system leaders across the country — a core element of developing AHA policy positions.

Chantal’s advocacy activities centered on both Capitol Hill and agencies within and outside the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) — including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), the HHS Office for Civil Rights (OCR), the HHS Office of the Inspector General (OIG), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Earlier in her career, Chantal was Senior Analyst for the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission. She holds a Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and an MPA from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University.

When not advising organizations on how to achieve their policy outcomes, Chantal enjoys spending time outdoors, whether hiking, biking, rowing or working in the garden of her Takoma Park, Md., home. While she has lived in the D.C. area for many years, Chantal still roots for her hometown teams — the University of Wisconsin Badgers and the Green Bay Packers.
